Google bought Blogger. Google thinks that friends of mine are "offensive" Some whiner clicked the "flag" button that you will notice is not present on this blog. My hideing of it does technicaly violate the user agreement, so... I'm moving out. This is the last post on this blog. I can be found at Thus I have Spoken where I will continue to constantly amaze myself that anyone wants to read my drivel. Please update your links and blogrolls. (If you REALY want to) ;> I do not like having to make this move. I do not like having to learn a new blogging system, redoing my blogroll, or any of the other WORK I'm going to be doing to get the new blog up and running. All while learning a new op system on my computer. (Ubuntu) But if giggle thinks it is ok to dump saysunkle, or Roger Schultz, it's just a matter of time before they slam the door on me. I will not wait for that. I am sorry it has come to this. I like Blogspot. I am used to it. There seems to be a great community here. But I strongly object to gaggles policies and actions, and not just with regard to blogger. Oh, and I dumped my shares of guggle at a loss. Come on over and visit me at my new blog. Bill Whittle has finaly graced us with a new post. I was afraid he had a stroke or something after posting Tribes. You HAVE read Tribes, haven't you? No? Well what are you waiting for? GO READ IT! I can wait... Anyway, it seems our invenerent author has written a screenplay. As he says,

Here's the skinny: for the last six months now, I have been pretty much totally consumed by a new project. I've returned to the dark habits of my misspent youth and have almost completed my seventh movie script. I suppose I could work three jobs instead of two, the third being essay-writing, but my back has been very delicate lately. Oh, the pain! The Pain! Why go AWOL and write a movie script, when the Idiotarian Mootbat Hunting Season is in full flower, and the skies are black with swarms of gaseous, leathery-winged bloviators, ripe for the skewering? Well, I'll tell you. On my best day here at trusty Triple-E, I might reach forty thousand people. With a semi-successful film, I might reach ten million, maybe ten times that. And so time and again I have forced myself to stay on target and press on with this screenplay; which, I am sure you will be shocked - shocked! - to discover, is somewhat overwritten. This REALLY SUCKS! I have no idea what I did to my blog, but ALL the formatting was gone. So I had to re-load the template, and I will be adding all the side bar stuff one Item at a time until I figure out what screwes up. This will take a while. Time is one of the things I don't have a lot of right now.

Redmemory1 is talking about posting preasure. Long before blogging came to be, I started a "journal" in .txt format. If I recall correctly, the first PC I was using was a DX486/100. Yeah, Cave man days. Point is, I filled an 800 meg Hard drive with those musings over time. Pray the Good Lord never lets them see the light of day. I still plug that old drive in once and a while just to remind myself of some of the stupid things I have said and done in my past. For you gentle readers, that check in to see if I have posted anything new, trust me when I say, more typing goes in the trash bin every day than ever graces this page. -Which is lucky to get an update a week. Most of it is even worse drivel than this, so you are REALY NOT missing anything. I am not a writer. I've never wanted to be one. But, like Robert Heinline, and Spider Robinson, I have a "Jones." Therefore I write. "Save as Draft" is my friend.

Operation Iraqi Children.

Tapscott and Micheal Yon are letting us know about how Gary Sinise has begun Operation Iraqi Children to gather school supplies for the kids over there.
I've gathered enough today at wallyshop for 6 kids. Next paycheck, I'll get stuff for a dozen more kids.

The kits are simple.
Here's the list:

1 pair of blunt end scissors
1 12 inch ruler with metric markings
12 new pencils with erasers
1 small pencil sharpener
1 large eraser
1 box of colored pencils (no crayons, they melt.)
1 pkg notebook paper
1 composition book
3 folders with inside pockets
1 zippered pencil bag.

Put it all in a 2 gallon size ziplock bag

That's it.
Supplies for a boy or girl to learn with.

A Fond Farewell

I am very pressed for time.
I work a 9 hour day, and I run a pistol course.
I argue for citizen rights and resposablilities on a dozen forums.
I read the news, and I read blogs.
I think there are about 40 blogs on my blogroll.
I have 29 on my bloglines notifier.
I also occasionaly blog when I find something noteworthy.

So when I see Ravenwood is chucking his keyboard out, I have a very bittersweet feeling about it.

This guy has blogged something interesting almost every day for over five years!

Hell, I'm lucky to post once a week.
If I manager to post something actualy interesting to anyone (other than me) it is pure serendipity.

I understand that sometimes you need a break.
But I'll miss the commentary.
Ravenwood will remain in my blogroll, and on my blogline notify list waiting for the day he returns.

Rights v. Obligations

Any time you go to a forum that has shooting or firearms as its' reason for existence, the subject of 2nd Amendment Rights comes up. And sooner or later someone will say, "What about WMD?" I've read both the Federalist and Anti-federalist papers. WMD, Nukes, Bio, or Chemical weapons are not covered by the 2nd. Sorry, that duck don't fly. Machine guns, short barreled rifles and shotguns, mufflers, up to and including towed artillary, are covered. And unconstitutionaly supressed. But not WMD. And, yes, the founders knew and understood germ warfare. They had opportunity to spread Smallpox, and deliberately passed on it. So much for that. NOW, let us talk about what we owe society for the recognition of our rights. Let us speak of our duties and obligations. This is a topic that very rarely shows up on the forums mentioned. And when someone (me) brings it up, they are promptly ignored. Little things, like voting in an informed manner. Answering the call for Jury Duty. And staying awake durring the trial if you are selected. Paying your taxes. Supporting your elected officials. Offering alternatives to proposed legislation that you disagree with. Running for an office that you think is not being filled in the manner you want. Helping a better candidate with his campaign even if he's after YOUR office. Military service to the country. Every Male owes six years, after all... Obeying the laws. If you don't like a law, you can fight to change it, but you obey them until they are changed. The bottome line is if you don't like the way the (insert political subdivision here) is being run by its elected officials, declare your candidacy, gather your petitions, pay the filing fees, campaign like there's no tomorrow, and win. Now, do better than the guy (or gal) you replaced. Don't want to? Don't even want to vote? Then sit down and shut up.

Regarding Work

I have one of the most boring jobs imaginable. I mount a product to a standardized test machine and hit the go button on the computer. The testing runs for up to 3 hours, or until the product fails. Then I compile the results, and mount the next sample. Repeat. Ditto etc. This is boring, because I have nothing to do except watch the machine run (Grass growing ring a bell?). But it is for a major multinational manufacturer. It is a secure, ok paying job with some hints of possible advancement. I do tend to not bring my laptop to work with me any more... Last time was just lucky. I could have been fired on the spot. Now, what brings this out of me is that a person whose' blog I have on my bloglines list posted about her job. She did not feel secure in the position she was working. I thought about that post, and how to leave a comment that would be supportive of her, no matter what decisions she may make in the future about that employment. Like most bloggers, she included the obligatory line about being vague enough to not be identified... So, I get the comment figured out in my head, and I go to post it. Her post is gone. Deleted. Not there even. This I find VERY troubling. I thought she was very circumspect in her description of the situation she was in. I hope her blog entry is just undergoing a rewrite. But then again, if she felt the need to remove the post, then she did the right thing by taking it down. Sometimes we really should listen to that small inner voice. Especially when it says "GET US THE HELL OUT OF HERE!" Think about that. Comments welcome.

This Kid has what it takes. I found this being discussed in a thread over at Kims Place. Then I find it at the Liberty Zone. I had been thinking that this 16 year old kid was acting the fool, but also he had guts. Nicki, at Liberty Zone, said

I find that I can not agree more. I also fear that this kid is going to end up on a "watch list," because he is willing to go see for himself. The PTBs' fear that sort of person.

It has come to my attention that there are a few folks that seem to think that Kim and Connie are trying to run a scam. Having been a Nation of Riflemen member for 6 months, and a lurker on that forum a LONG time, reading Kims and Connies blogs, I can only say that it is my OPINION that they are both trustworthy and honest in their newest endevor. I saw how they tried to help homeschoolers with "Did Today." (A worthy endevor if I ever saw one) I saw how Kims efforts to make this country better (The NoR), destroyed Did Today before it even got off the ground. I saw how Kim and Connie (and their kids) suffered and damn near lost their house. I watched a man cut down to the point that life forced him to sell cherished firearms. I recognised that feeling he had (because I've been there) when he came to understand that even if he regained in the future, those exact same firearms, they would no longer be as cherished. After all, Family - Comes - First. You do what you have to do. I watched him lose an employment opportunity where he is probably one of the top 50 in the field. Because of his efforts with The NoR. Yes, I'm getting involved with the Nation of Volunteers. Because Kims' and Connies' vision is one that I share. A country of people, that understand both their rights, and their duties. A nation of people that are able to think for themselves, and weigh evidence. A nation of sheepdogs, instead of sheep. Through this effort, I can stop muddeling along without guidence and REALY make a difference. I don't have money to donate...My forign trade excursion saved me from being homeless. But I have time. So 'Time' is what I will give. Think of the movie "Pay it Forward." That's the IDEA the DuToits are trying to instill.

Too. I have happily gotten involved with this project, that Kim and Connie(it feels so good to be able to mention their names again) have begun. From Kims site, the announcement.

New Direction The film Field of Dreams brought the phrase, “If you build it, they will come” into the American lexicon. And that is what we’re going to do. We have launched a new website and a new company, The Nation of Volunteers Foundation. Unlike previous business endeavors, however, this is not a for-profit company. The purpose of this company is to continually raise enough money to fund salaries and endeavors which we believe will make America a better place. We will be calling on Americans to do all sorts of volunteer activities (without compensation), from helping new shooters to sharing their books, information and expertise with home educators. (Details below the fold.) The purpose of the Nation of Volunteers Foundation is to allow us to manage these activities full time.

In addition, we will need other kinds of services normally provided for a fee (accounting and legal services, business supplies, etc.). The company I work for has offices in Japan. -Keep in mind that I am just a small fish in a giant multi-national corporation. Recently, the local PTBs' gave a tour for Visiting PTBs through my department. I didn't even know it (the tour) was coming, that is how small a fish I am. Anyway, they come through my work space, and I have my (not company) laptop running my NRA Basic Pistol Powerpoint presentation on my desk. The VP/Test developement from Japan sees it and starts paging through the presentation. (uh, Oh...) Extended entry Extended entry The questions start. Q. What is this for? A. A class I run for people that want to learn how to use a gun safely. Q. Why do people want to take this class? A. Here in Ohio, the class meets State requirements for people to get their Concealed Handgun Licence. Q. When do you teach this class? A. Evenings and weekends. Q. May I attend this class? A. Certainly! Then Mr. Big says, "We will discuss this." And the whole entourage sweeps away. I go back to running tests. 30 min. later, boss comes in. "Don't bring that gunsh!t in here again!" He said alot of other stuff about personal business on Co. time, too. "consider yourself warned!" I said, "Yessir." uhoh, there goes the bonus... Next day, I have an e-mail waiting for me. Mr. Big wants specifics on the class. Cost, times, etc. Shinola... "Hey, Boss! how do I handle this?" A. "Oh, damn... Well answer them!" But Boss, You said no more personal business on Company Time... Uh, don't you have a website for them to go to? Like I can afford that on what he pays me. "No, sir, I count on word of mouth for adverts." "Well, uh... Go ahead and answer them." Ok... Now, keep in mind that I am trying to not let this interfere with my work... Basic info e-mail sent. Then the phone rings. Boss wants me. Oh ****, what now? Mr. Big wants a meeting with me. Boss will drive. I'm what? Gonna say "No?" 6 hours and a great lunch later, I end up setting up a class, on company time, in the company theater, teaching 39 visiting PTBs (from Japan), and 18 PTBs from other USA divisions. (Not Ohio based people) NRA BasicPistol runs 10 hours. This one ran a week. 8 hours a day. Range time ran another week. (2 hrs. + per student, 2 at a time per instructor.) I had to rent 60 revolvers, and 60 pistols + training ammo for them from a friend of mine.(He's my assitant instructor for the course. My wife, and my son also helped) This is, of course a pass along cost. Oh, have I ever mentioned that my company posts 'No Weapons'?(Lol!) The Boss is in a fluster. Of course, I cannot run tests while running the class... but he's gotten cudos for my work teaching. This hs brought him to attention in a favorable way. But he is a GFW... The best part of all of this, was watching the face of a little (4'9" 84 Lb. -I asked) Japanese secretary shoot her first shot. She gets it. In fact, ALL the Japanese PTB's get it. You could see it in their (normaly inscrutible) faces. I charged my normal $125.00 per person fee, and figured it would be replacing my bonus from work. Todays mail brought me a VERY large personal check from the Japan VP/test developement, Mr. Big. He implies in his letter, that he wants me to run the course for visiting PTBs whenever they are in town. There is a hint of travel there, also. This has promise for my (company) future, which was looking a little shaky when all this started

Sgt. Walter Gaya, of the deuce four, Gave his eye in Iraq for this country. You all know Sgt.Gaya from reading Michael Yon's dispatches. (You DO read Mike, don't you? He's in my daily read list.) Sgt. Gaya has been LEAGALY in the USA since he was a child. He cares enough about this country to have VOLUNTEERED to go into harms way. Harm found him. Eight days before he was going to attend his Naturalization ceremony, to be granted full citizenship.

Now, he's in a bureaucratic black hole: Federal immigration officials wouldn't renew his permanent resident card or tell him when he could reschedule the swearing-in ceremony. No one at the local U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office could tell him what to do next to get his citizenship papers, or even how to renew his immigration documents.

Federal Immigration Offals. The ones who cannot see an illeagal alien deported? No. ONE federal immigration offal is sitting on Sgt Gayas' file. This is the way it always goes. ONE petty bureaurat feeling his power will F* up a persons life JUST BECAUSE HE CAN. This is known as 'abuse of power'. and it hapens every day. There is a remedy for this kind of Offal action. Best SCOTUS Nominee

I hesitate to bring this up, as My ideas have a dismal habit of falling apart. Over there at the Smallest Minority, the topic of a good candidate for the next SCOTUS choice is discussed. I find myself in agreement. Judge Kozinski first blipped on my radar screen in his dessent in Sylveira.

Judges know very well how to read the Constitution broadly when they are sympathetic to the right being asserted. We have held, without much ado, that “speech, or . . . the press” also means the Internet...and that “persons, houses, papers, and effects” also means public telephone booths....When a particular right comports especially well with our notions of good social policy, we build magnificent legal edifices on elliptical constitutional phrases - or even the white spaces between lines of constitutional text. But, as the panel amply demonstrates, when we’re none too keen on a particular constitutional guarantee, we can be equally ingenious in burying language that is incontrovertibly there. It is wrong to use some constitutional provisions as springboards for major social change while treating others like senile relatives to be cooped up in a nursing home until they quit annoying us. As guardians of the Constitution, we must be consistent in interpreting its provisions. If we adopt a jurisprudence sympathetic to individual rights, we must give broad compass to all constitutional provisions that protect individuals from tyranny. If we take a more statist approach, we must give all such provisions narrow scope. Expanding some to gargantuan proportions while discarding others like a crumpled gum wrapper is not faithfully applying the Constitution; it’s using our power as federal judges to constitutionalize our personal preferences.

The spanking Judge Kozinski gave his fellow Judges on the 9th circuit has been totaly missed by them. Linked to Point Five open trackbacks I have more to say about this... I am working from Kevins blog, because the last update of Acrobat totaly f*'d up and I can nolonger open .pdf's. As Kevin says, Judge Kozinski would be an excelen candidate for President Bush to nominate, because

He would be a candidate that the conservative base would be behind 99%. A big plus is that democrats in general, and liberals in particular would HAAAAaaaate him. I, and many other conservatives are fed up with the pussy footing around. We are ready for the fight. Wa WANT the 'Constituional' option deployed. We WANT to slap the libs with a clue bat. Kevin says this won't happen because the President doesn't want the controversy at home. Well, we do. Just as with the war on terror, appeasement doesn't work. We WANT to fight the good fight. We WANT to WIN. We CAN win. So give us someone to fight FOR. No more defense. that is a loosing position. Leave that to and for the left. From kevin:

"But he is also very dangerous, especially with regard to the rights of immigrants, workers, and the poor. Property rights always trump human rights for him." Fellow Ninth Circuit judge Stephen Reinhardt, a passionate liberal and close friend of Kozinski's, is also one of his harshest critics. "What do I think of his views? Not much," he says bluntly. "Alex is one of the brightest of the right wing, but he focuses too narrowly on property and is terrible on affirmative action and other civil rights. I would hate to see him on the Supreme Court, where he could do some really serious damage."

My opinion? Their damnation is great praise. Judge Kozinski would bea great nominee. For the President, for the conservatives, and -once confirmed- for the country. Therefore it won't happen.

I think that a lot of people are carrying around in their heads, unarticulated and even in some cases unnoticed, a sense that the wheels are coming off the trolley and the trolley off the tracks. Then come back, as I have a proposition for all you non existent readers. This will stay on top for a few days. Back? Good. This is the quality of our fighting forces. Cpl. Liberty was damn near killed, and had no thoughts for her own injuries, was trying to rescue a fellow soldier that was hurt worse than she was. That she did not succeed in that effort is no reflection on her. She still grieves for her fallen comrades, and thinks they deserve awards more than she does. This woman is more of a man than any person who wants to surrender (get out of the middle east) weather they have exterior plumbing or not. Ok. Here's the proposition. There's a group of folks that want to give Cpl. Liberty a gift. An expensive gift. One that I think that as a Marine, she'd both like and appreciate. An engraved Polished stainless Colt 2071 in 38 super. Just to say "Thank You," for putting her life on the line for us. This group is looking at a cost of around 1600 bucks. David, over at War On Guns points us to an interesting article from Scotland, (you know, part of the British empire?) where a soldier lost her hand gun.

A soldier's weapon has been missing for two days after it was left in a supermarket toilet during a military exercise, it has emerged. An army captain put her waistband holster on top of the cistern in a disabled loo during an exercise on Saturday evening and then left it behind, the Sun reported. So far the weapon has not been located and officers are currently conducting searches in the nearby area.

So, the average peon in the british empire can't even legaly posses an air gun, But the military can supply arms to criminals?

Anyone with information of the pistol's whereabouts is urged not to touch it but to contact police immediately

Who ever, at Level 3 made the decission to 'pull the plug' on Cogent, needs to be publicly horsewhipped. I am not suggesting any new 'laws' or 'regulations'. Upstate New Yorkers suddenly became incapable of coping with the cost of snow removal. In 1997, Congress gave FEMA $500,000 and ordered it to develop a comprehensive plan to evacuate New Orleans. The agency passed on the money to Louisiana, which used it instead to study building a new bridge. As Rita Beamish of The Associated Press reported on Sunday, FEMA didn't bother making sure a plan was drawn up - an aide to Witt said its job had just been to pass on the money. How often do you suppose someone at Wal-Mart headquarters dispenses $500,000 and doesn't bother keeping track of it? It's legendary for tracking every transaction and pinching every penny. When Scott, the chief executive officer, travels with the chief financial officer, they cut costs by sharing a hotel room. Well, this is looking more like a diary than a journal... I just looked at my site meterstats, and I count three people have looked at this for more than 5 seconds... Iwon't appologise for the lack of posting, as there has been a major crisis among 2amd bloggers. Kim du Toit has closed his site. So did his "The Mrs." The Nation of Riflemen Forum was down for a while, but it is back up under the management of Chris Byrn and other souls (possibly) Kim had one hell of a decission to make. Put food on his table, or run a popular blog. The Blog is gone, and he made the correct choice, because when it is all said and done, FAMILY COMES FIRST, NO MATER WHAT. I have faced similar choices, but not to that degree. Prioretising time, is all. And like Kim and Connie, I chose to set the blogging aside until now, that time allows. I would like to take this opportunity to PUBLICLY (hollow laugh)thank Jed and Owen, proprietors of the Boots and Sabers Forum that they set up in record time as a refuge of sanity for all the NoR people when NoR went down. We thought of taking it to N.O., but we couldnt figure how to get the water to those people who were NOT looting jewlry and big screen Tv's I have more to say about this... The ones who have receipts for the stuff in their homes and businesses. The ones the New Orleans police are now arresting, while the hoodlums run free... Running free. The gangstas, and drug dealers that terrorize their own neighborhoods every day and stayed behind after the evac order for the EXPRESS PURPOSE of pillaging, and looting are still running around that town. They should be shot. They should be hung from light poles. Kill them, and New Orleanswould be a better place. ESPECIALY THOSE COPS THAT WERE SEEN LOOTING ON NATIONAL TV! What a disgrace! Lessons from Katrina, Pt. 1 There is some seriously fucked stuff going on in the United States of America right now. An AMERICAN city closely resembling some crappy third world hole in the ground is only the beginning of it. There are so many rants going on in my head right now I can barely contain them all. Instead of yelling and screaming at my computer and TV, I think it’s best to break them down into the lessons I am learning from this tragedy.

Denial phase over, now to plan of action. My awakening came durring the rodney king riots.

Arm myself. That’s the lesson for today. I’ve always had access to guns. Owned a few, though I don’t have any right now. Never really thought much about it, I could borrow guns if I wanted them, though not necessarily immediately. I’ve always been a big supporter of the Second Amendment (odd that the Bill of Rights even needs to be defended). Always told people THEY should own a firearm. Always knew I'd get a couple eventually. For the last couple of years I’ve been putting off buying some new guns because the ones I want are more expensive than the funds I normally have available to me ( DSA-58, Sig p220, Ithica 37 M). Figured, maybe the next side job. Maybe the next paycheck. No more excuses. No more waiting. Arming myself to protect my family, friends and possessions is now my new paramount concern.

Those who believe in the adage "when it rains, it pours" might take the tale of the plaintiffs in Kelo v. New London as a cue to buy two of every animal and a load of wood from Home Depot. The U.S. Supreme Court recently found that the city's original seizure of private property was constitutional under the principal of eminent domain, and now New London is claiming that the affected homeowners were living on city land for the duration of the lawsuit and owe back rent. It's a new definition of chutzpah: Confiscate land and charge back rent for the years the owners fought confiscation. In some cases, their debt could amount to hundreds of thousands of dollars. Moreover, the homeowners are being offered buyouts based on the market rate as it was in 2000 . The hard rains started falling that year, when Matt Dery and his neighbors in Fort Trumbull learned that the city planned to replace their homes with a hotel, a conference center, offices and upscale housing that would complement the adjoining Pfizer Inc. research facility. The city, citing eminent domain, condemned their homes, told them to move and began leveling surrounding houses. Dery and six of his neighbors fought the takeover, but five years later, on June 23, the downpour of misfortune continued as the U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that the city could claim the property for economic development. Dery owns four buildings on the project site, including his home and the birthplace and lifelong home of his 87-year-old mother, Wilhelmina. Dery plans to make every remaining effort to keep his land, but with few legal options remaining, he's planning for the worst. And for good reason. It's reasonable to think that people who purchased property years ago (in some cases, decades ago) would be in a position to cash in, especially since they're being forced from their homes. But that's not the case. The New London Development Corp., the semi-public organization hired by the city to facilitate the deal, is offering residents the market rate as it was in 2000, as state law requires. That rate pales in comparison to what the units are now worth, owing largely to the relentless housing bubble that has yet to burst. "I can't replace what I have in this market for three times [the 2000 assessment]," says Dery, 48, who works as a home delivery sales manager for the New London Day . He soothes himself with humor: "It's a lot like what I like to do in the stock market: buy high and sell low." And there are more storms on the horizon. In June 2004, NLDC sent the seven affected residents a letter indicating that after the completion of the case, the city would expect to receive retroactive "use and occupancy" payments (also known as "rent") from the residents. In the letter, lawyers argued that because the takeover took place in 2000, the residents had been living on city property for nearly five years, and would therefore owe rent for the duration of their stay at the close of the trial. Any money made from tenantssome residents' only form of incomewould also have to be paid to the city. With language seemingly lifted straight from The Goonies , NLDC's lawyers wrote, "We know your clients did not expect to live in city-owned property for free, or rent out that property and pocket the profits, if they ultimately lost the case." They warned that "this problem will only get worse with the passage of time," and that the city was prepared to sue for the money if need be. A lawyer for the residents, Scott Bullock, responded to the letter on July 8, 2004, asserting that the NLDC had agreed to forgo rents as part of a pretrial agreement in which the residents in turn agreed to a hastened trial schedule. Bullock called the NLDC's effort at obtaining back rent "a new low." "It seems like it is simply a desperate attempt by a nearly broke organization to try to come up with more funds to perpetuate its own existence," Bullock wrote. He vowed to respond to any lawsuit with another. With the case nearly closed, the NLDC may soon make good on its promise to sue. Jeremy Paul, an associate UConn law dean who teaches property law, says it's not clear who might prevail in a legal battle over rent. "From a political standpoint, the city might be better off trying to reach some settlement with the homeowners," he says. An NLDC estimate assessed Dery for $6,100 per month since the takeover, a debt of more than $300K. One of his neighbors, case namesake Susette Kelo, who owns a single-family house with her husband, learned she would owe in the ballpark of 57 grand. "I'd leave here broke," says Kelo. "I wouldn't have a home or any money to get one. I could probably get a large-size refrigerator box and live under the bridge." That's one way to get out of the rain.

Jason Kerns, 29, was arrested late Monday. He faces charges of assault with intent to commit a violent felony upon an officer, criminal damage to property and tampering with evidence in the Aug. 6 shooting. Bernalillo County, N.M., authorities said they recovered several firearms from Kerns’ home, including a rifle they believe was involved in the shooting, along with boxes of ammunition.

These Gun Laws Would Make Us Safe Editor, Times-Dispatch: Speed kills; drugs kill. Guns also kill. When guns kill, someone pulls a trigger -- sometimes accidentally, other times intentionally. Most folks dislike the notion of death -- especially unusual, unavoidable, and unnatural death. As guns are instrumental in bringing about a frightening number of unnatural deaths, most folks would agree that we need some measures to alleviate this kind of death. Two measures effectively would eliminate the scourge of deaths caused by guns: (1) Get rid of guns, and (2) get rid of ammunition. There are other instruments that kill, of course. Rocks, knives, and sticks always will be available. We can't control those, but we can control guns. We could get rid of guns through confiscation and destruction, and could make the manufacture of guns and ammunition illegal. Then we could maintain armories where hobbyists, collectors, and hunters would be required to store their arms under lock and key, to be used only through approved procedures and only if returned after use. All infractions would need to be punished rigorously. All transactions would be handled through government-operated venues. Resting on the desk of Gov. Mike Easley, awaiting his signature, is a bill passed Friday by the North Carolina General Assembly. The pending law would require local clerks of court to provide information to domestic violence victims on how to obtain temporary concealed weapons permits. The bill was approved by the Senate on a 43-4 vote, and also adds protective orders to the evidence a sheriff can consider when determining whether to issue a 90-day permit for a concealed weapon. Domestic violence victims already qualified for such a permit. But now, it seems, the government is practically endorsing them.

This newspaper has in the past taken a staunch stand on the side of gun rights. We believe that responsible Americans are entitled to keep and bear firearms.

But it is potentially quite irresponsible to recommend firearms ownership to those who aren't prepared for the responsibility. And that clearly might happen in the case of domestic violence victims.

Therefore you oh so wise editors think that those who realy need protection should be not allowed their Costitutional right of arms to guarantee theirnatural right to life? Oh, I get it... the death or maiming of a Domesticviolence victim sells more papers than when a woman kills her attacker. Back to the Barbara Streisand...

There is no doubt these women - and the occasional man - need protection from their assailant. There's also little doubt that law enforcement can't always be there to provide that protection. And there certainly are known cases in which women have saved their own lives and possibly the lives of others, including their children, by wielding or even discharging a firearm when in danger.

Yes, thereby proving that having a gun saves lives.

So we firmly believe that women who are up to the task - who not only have some knowledge of firearms, but are psychologically prepared to responsibly use the gun when under pressure - should absolutely qualify for a concealed weapons permit.

Should the government really be requiring clerks to notify every domestic violence victim of her right to pack a hidden gun, when common sense tells us that many of these women aren't well-suited to carry concealed weapons? Domestic violence prevention groups didn't seek this legislation. If the activists whose calling is to protect victimized women however they can didn't ask for this law, then chances are it's a law domestic violence victims didn't need.

I get the feeling that the editors of this fish wrap have their minds made up long ago. I am an NRA Certified Instructor in Basic Pistol, and Personal Protection in the Home. The day Ohio passed CCW, I went to the Sheriffs' Office, to offer free training to any woman aplying for a temporary emergency handgun licence. This was so inexperienced women, or worse, women with no experience with handguns could get the training they needed to safely handle a gun. They called me every dirty name you could think of. Later, at one of his fundraisers, I explained to the sheriff that I couldn't donate to his re-election campaign, and why. He appologised for his employees disrespect, and tried to tell me that for his office to refer people to me for training could be construed as an endorsment of my class. I said I understood his position, and I hope he understood mine as I wrote out a $100.00 check in front of him. To his opponent, the Republican candidate. (Who lost, big surprise) After being snubbed bythe Sheriffs' Office, I contacted the three womens shelter groups in my county. Man, You'd think I had Leprosy the way those people acted... Professional Victim pimps. Their livelyhood depends on victims to go to them. They then use those victims to extort money from he county coffers. Slime. Help files generaly seem to be written on a per word basis (more words, more money) So I started looking around at other blogs to find out how they do it. I don't even know how I got to The Bad Example's blog, but boy am I glad I did. Read more... Harvey has a literal school for the blogger newbe at the top of the right column of his blog. Anyone new to blogging NEEDS to read through it. The best 'tip' he gives is one I whole heartedly support. Download Note Tab Light to typeout your blog entry while you are off line. Then just copy and paste what you wrote to your blog whenever ou have a chance. I am using Note Tab Light to do this post. Andevery post you, the reader, will ever see in the future. No spell checkerin the free version, with my stutter fingers, I may just have to spring for the upgrade. We will see what the future holds. (CNN) -- A Bernalillo County Sheriff's Department helicopter that crashed Saturday in the yard of an Albuquerque home was brought down by a bullet, Sheriff Darren White said late Tuesday.

At a news conference in New Mexico, White showed pictures of where a bullet penetrated the windshield of the aircraft, known as Metro One, and shattered on a pedal the pilot uses to fly the helicopter. The inside of the cockpit tested positive for lead fragments, according to forensic tests, and pilot Chris Holland and Deputy Ward Pfefferle suffered shrapnel wounds.

Can I see those photos? No? Why not? Penetrated the windshield but only dented the pedal? Hmm... maybe a pistol round...

White did not specifically explain how the bullet brought Metro One down Saturday night.

Still working on a plausible story, Sheriff? I join Head calling B.S. on this one for all his reasons. Wonder what this sheriff's position is on an armed citizenry? Think about this. If you want to shoot down a helecopter with a handgun, it may just be possible to do the described damage if you are within oh say 100 feet ...max(DAMN! what a lucky shot) The helecopter ws reported to be at 400 feet altitude...(was he realy?) If that helecopter had been hit with a .30 cal rifle, the pilot would have a good sized hole in his leg. If shot by a .50BMG round, the pilot would be holding his leg in his hands (what he could find of it). My guess? If the hole in the windscreen, and dented pedal were caused by gunfire, and not something else, it happened after the helecopter was on the ground. (Post crash) Looks like CYA from here, so I say "BULLSHIT!" sheriff. Nice try.

Running for office

I have come to the conclusion that the only way for me to get any kind of attention from my elected congress critters is to run for an office. In my journey thru life, and discovering the most exciting bloodsport in existance(politics) I have decided that I have a strong conservative leaning. Currently, this is represented best by the Republican party. Though, Conservative Democrats like Zel Miller have earned even greater respect from me. The GOP does not seem to want to be winners. We work our asses off to get Repubs elected, and they run off and follow one of two roads. Either they turn to trying to control the whole world thru enlarging government power, (Statist R.) or they Cry for more Authority like a liberal(Statist D). The one thing they will not do, is talk to any one in their district who has not donated $1000.00. Unles you are a member of your county central committee. So, I am running for my precincts Republican committee seat. It is currently empty, but when I asked at the couny party Hq. to be appointed, I was turned down. (Insert lame excuse here) No one else has expressed any interest at all in the position, but I have no political connection or capital except a LOT of volunteer time. "Thanks for the 250 ours of phone bank time, see you in '08!" Your ass... I'll be seeing you alot sooner than that... to paraphrase Kipling- Into the fray rode the hundred... An elected judge puts child molesters back on the street regularly for whatever excuse. The collective 'We' keep re-electing him. A child gets raped and killed. Our fault. New judge that will "put 'em away for ever", or kill the perp.

WE THE PEOPLE have the RIGHT to hold such cirminals accountable for their anti-social activities. We DELEGATE that right as an authority and power to Government in order to have the right be more effectively enforced. Unfortunately, Government elietists always try to grab more power at our expense. So our job is to hold them (the government elites) accountable. Our founding fathers recognized the liklelyhood of Government employees lusting for power, this is the reason they included as a pre existing right the 2nd Amendment. Because the threat of being shot for invading peoples rights is all that keeps the bureau-rats in any kind of check. Law and justice are not a threat to the bureaurats. Why should it be? The FBI sniper Lon Hoourochi got a promotion for killing a woman holding a baby when she was no threat to anyone. He still walks the streets. Janet Reno is still walking the streets, too, after kidnapping a little boy and sending him off to live in a dicatorship. Oh, yeah, she also killed by arson, and gunfire 83 people, one of whome was suspected of not paying a $200.00 tax. I forget how many of the 83 were children ( the ones she 'did it for').
